Divya Vidyalaya

Divya Vidyalaya is a residential school for 134 mentally challenged & blind adivasi children

It is located at Jawhar, which is 144kms from Mumbai. The tribal people of Vikramgadh, Jawhar & Mokhada have faced many problems due to malnutrition, which is one of the reasons for children being mentally challenged & blind apart from many other medical issues. We began the school in 2007 with around 10 children. We faced many financial issues but managed somehow, all because of the dedication & hard work of Smt. Pramila Tai Kokad who is the founder of the school. She has been working for tribal people since more than 30 years & has also won Presidential award from the hands of Smt. Pratibha Patil for her services towards tribal welfare.

Help came from many quarters, Lions Club of Bombay Juhu Gulmohar, Thakur Guru Ji, Rotary/Inner wheel Club, Lions Club of Thane(west), Shree Aniruddha Upasana Foundation, Parle Hindu devalaya Mandal & substantially from SEWA UK. Today, we have two buildings, one which is a school & the other for the children to reside with proper washroom facilities, a mess & dining area. There are many more individuals & corporates who keep helping us with whatever they can. We do not take any fees from our school children as their parents cannot afford it. All expenses of salary of teachers, staff, food for the children, maintenance of both the buildings & any expense whatsoever is being taken care from donations received from various people, corporates & NGO’s.

Vision

  • To provide a platform to Divyang in Society to face the challenges in life to become responsible Citizens by contribution of their special skills to the Society.
  • To provide quality education to upto 200 special children.
  • To have a vocational and skill training Centres with marketing of products on the adjoining plot, so that Children can become self-reliant. This will help students to undergo various vocational training before they complete their schooling and can have their self-employment and have regular income.

  • To increase the capacity and geographical reach so as more and more Divyangs can benefit from the trainings and systems adopted at Divya Vidyalaya to work shoulder to shoulder with the main stream.
